In 1958, Olympic skier Bill Janss came to the valley and began purchasing and developing land, hoping to emulate the success of nearby Aspen Mountain. By 1967, Snowmass-at-Aspen opened with five chair lifts, 50 miles of ski trails, seven hotels, and six restaurants. People from all over the world started visiting this unique village and Snowmass lodging options expanded quickly over the years. In 1977, the town of Snowmass Village was incorporated as a Home Rule Town. Since then, Snowmass Village has become a world-class vacation destination.
