Are you looking to go leaf peeping this fall? Not sure where to go? Say no more, we’ve got you covered at the Stonebridge Condominiums. The Aspen area is an amazing place to experience fall colors. Not only does it occur much earlier than it does at lower elevations, we are surrounded with Aspen trees that turn radiant shades of yellow, orange, and even pink during late September. Sometimes, snow will fall on the peaks of surrounding mountains which creates extremely picturesque views. This fall, take a trip to Aspen/Snowmass and experience the true colors of the Rocky Mountains. Here are three roads that we suggest for prime leaf peeping.
Owl Creek Road
Also known as the “back road” from Aspen to Snowmass, Owl Creek road is stunning during fall. The best part is that it’s only a 3 minute drive from the Stonebridge Condominiums in Snowmass. We recommend walking along the bike path over there so you can really take in all that there is to offer. Otherwise, use this route on your way to check out our other favorite fall locations.
Maroon Creek Road
The road to Maroon Bells. Following the road past Highlands will take you on a journey through one of Colorado’s most pristine landscapes. Without even needing to go into the Maroon Bells Scenic Park, you can be satisfied. However, we strongly recommend spending the $10/car fee to enter the park and experience fall at the Bells. Cars are not permitted into the park between 8 AM and 6 PM until October 2nd, but there is a shuttle service ($8 for adults and $6 for children under the age of 6 and $6 for seniors over the age of 65) that you can catch from Aspen Highlands. The shuttle bus ride doubles as a historical tour of the area as well. You will not be disappointed with the breathtaking views of the Maroon Bells.
Castle Creek Road
Castle Creek Road is incredibly dense with Aspen trees. Because of that, it is one of the most amazing places in Colorado to experience the colors of autumn. Not only are there a lot of Aspen trees, but there are also some amazing trails, recreation areas, and even a restaurant at the end of the road. For hikes, we recommend Cathedral Lake and American Lake. Once you’re done hiking, go check out the ghost town of Ashcroft! If you’re feeling hungry after that, the Pine Creek Cookhouse serves up a fine dining experience in the heart of the mountains. Truly an experience to be had by all.
