Aspen Skiing Company likes to keep us waiting on events for the winter, but we do know who will be showing up for the X Games and Belly Up throughout the season. These are just the early picks and there are still plenty more artists to be added to the roster. Here’s a few of our favorites.
Belly Up
Shakey Graves – December 14
The First big show of the winter season will be Shakey Graves unless someone is added before then. VIP seats are already sold out but there general tickets still available. The singer could best be descriped as indie-folk.
Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats – December 15 & 16
Nathaniel Rateliff is the second big act, just the day after Shakey Graves, with both nights being sold out already. Tickets were not cheap, but Aspen visitors and locals alike showed their love of the band early on.
Dillon Francis – December 21
The electronic mastermind, Dillon Francis is coming to the small venue and will start quiet the party. Francis is known for playing to stadium-sized crowds so this should be an interesting show to say the least.
Diplo – December 29
Another electronic giant will be coming to Aspen for a show for the ages. “Thomas Wesley Pentz, better known as Diplo, is one of the most dynamic forces in music today.”
Justice – December 30 & 31
To celebrate the day before and the New Year’s Eve, Belly Up has secured a wildly difficult band for the New Year – Justice. These guys regularly sell out stadiums and will throw quite the show to bring in 2019. “The punky French electronic duo continues its descent into the disco baroque,” (Rolling Stone) with two albums that peaked at #1 on Billboard’s Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart.
X Games
Kygo – January 24
This show would sell out in New York, LA, Paris, and London, so of course, it’s already sold out in our little town of 7,000. The first artist to perform for the X Games is none other than the Norwegian artist who has made a massive name for himself over recent years. “Kygo consistently forges ahead and boldly braves new territory on each new song, EP, album, and tour. Since his emergence in 2013, the Norwegian-born history-making producer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, DJ, and international phenomenon has set the pace for such innovation.”
The Chainsmokers – January 25
On a similar level as Kygo in modern electronic music, The Chainsmokers have toured throughout the world to receive international acclaim. “Grammy Award-winning and Billboard Chart topping artist/producer duo, The Chainsmokers, have evolved into a dominating musical force with a diverse repertoire of songs that have led them to become one of music’s hottest recording artists.”
Lil Wayne – January 26
One of the world’s most famous hip-hop artists will join Aspen on the final night of X Games and the show will undoubtedly be one of the smaller venues he’ll play in recent years. No different than the rest on this list, Wayne typically plays to tens of thousands, not 200. “Having sold millions of albums worldwide and garnered four GRAMMY awards, Lil Wayne is one of the most successful and critically lauded artists in Hip Hop.”
