Snowmass has been kicking it up a notch for the 2017/2018 Winter season, including an array of event, parties, new lifts and even an alpine coaster that will run through winter.
If you’re after adventure, Snowmass has it. With 3,332 acres of skiable terrain, it’s bigger than Aspen, Highlands and Buttermilk combined. With that much terrain, you’re sure to find what you’re looking for. Double blacks, cliff drops, park jumps, check! Bunny slope, magic carpet, long and easy runs, they’ve got it!
With something for everyone, skiing and staying at Snowmass is a no-brainer. Here’s what’s new and what’s happening at Snowmass this year:
Opening Day
This year, Snowmass plans to open on November 23rd, 2017 – Thanksgiving Day. In our opinion, there’s no better way to bring the family together than a great day on the slopes. Opening day is always packed with excitement, as locals and visitors get their, long-awaited, first turns of the year. We’re already starting to get a solid snow base, so keep your fingers crossed for powder on the 23rd!
Snowmass 50th Anniversary
In honor of Snowmass’s 50th birthday, the Aspen Snowmass Ski Company offered $6.50 lift tickets, matching the original 1967 price. Unfortunately, the demand was incredibly high, so those deals are gone but the party is still happening. On Friday, December 15th there will be an Après Ski Party at Snowmass Base Village from 1 – 4pm featuring live music from DJ GeoDecibel. On Saturday, Snowmass is bring back Banana Days and a similar schedule with music from DJ Benny. Sunday will be a day of vintage skiing and riding complete with the Cabin Jump and Rail Jam. Even if you didn’t get your $6.50 ticket, this is a weekend not to miss!
Breathtaker Alpine Coaster
Brand new for the 2017/2018 Winter season is the rider controlled, alpine coaster on Snowmass mountain. The 5,700 foot long track winds through trees between Gunner’s View and Sandy Park ski trails on Snowmass Mountain. Safe for riders of all ages, this coaster allows you to go as slow or as fast as you dare! Opening in December, the coaster will be open for both winter and summer season.
Ullr Nights
Every Friday night from December 22, 2017 to April 8, 2018, the mountain lights up in honor of the Norse God of snow, Ullr. The event is held at Elk Camp and is perfect for families or even a high altitude date night.
Activities include tubing, snow biking, snowshoe tours, access to the alpine coaster and of course live music, dinner and s’mores!
New High Alpine Chair
If you haven’t had any laps on the High Alpine chair installed fresh for last winter, this year is your chance! The new lift opens access to tons of new and improved old terrain. Snowmaking and glade construction projects throughout the summer have improved those trails you know and love.
