For a little mountain town, there’s no shortage of yoga around Aspen and Snowmass. There are traditional studios, including hot yoga, as well as a few outdoor options that we love. Get outside for your regular practice or visit one of the top-notch studios in town. Here are a few of our favorite options around town:
ACES Yoga in the Wild is a donation-based class held at the edge of Hallam Lake by the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies. ACES says they draw “on the wild roots of yoga, this all-levels class blends philosophy, asana (posture) practice, and contemplative exploration of ACES’ magical nature preserve into a playful and holistic experience. Classes are donation-based and memorable for both, those new to yoga as well as accomplished practitioners.” Classes are held every Tuesday at 5:15 PM.
For a more elevated yoga experience, try Yoga at the top of Aspen mountain. Mountain Top Yoga held by local studio Aspen Shakti is a great way to experience Aspen in the summer with great views and leisurely ride in the Silver Queen Gondola. Owner of Shakti said this about the experience, “People can expect to find a moment of freedom from their every day lives and a profound sense of peace from within — isn’t this at least part of what we are all seeking? It’s one of the easiest ways to get there, and why this has been a hugely popular offering since its inception several years ago. We are thrilled to be expanding and evolving the program to meet the raising awareness of consciousness that is happening around the globe. In Aspen we aim to be at the forefront of this movement and pledge to do all we can to make offerings such as this accessible, fun, and an unforgettable part of your Aspen experience.”
If hot yoga is more of your speed, then you’ll want to visit Arjuna Yoga on East Hopkins Ave. The slow paced class focuses on detoxification through sweat and breathing. You’ll come out feeling rejuvenated and probably a few pound lighter in water weight.
For the non-traditional yogis or the ones who just don’t love chanting and the sometimes strange elements that come with yoga, there’s Thug Yoga. This very alternative class is a fun take on the usually serious practice. Pose names have been replaced by rappers and beer is provide by Aspen Brewing Company. It doesn’t get more mountainish than this.
