We say it all the time, but it bears repeating: Spring is the perfect time of year to learn to ski!
Although we love every part of the year in Snowmass, there are a few things about Spring that just make it easier to start out and enjoy your first time on skis or a board. Anytime there is snow is a great day on the hill, but freezing temperatures and heavy snow can make it tough for the younger ones to start. If you want your kids, or anyone else for that matter, to stick with skiing and not potentially get scared of the snow and cold, Spring is a great option for a first day on the hill.
Mid-Winter is an amazing time for powder skiing and great conditions, but typically more so for those who know the ins and outs of skiing. While growing accustomed to the snow and cold weather these beautiful mountains offer is essential to really appreciate all the elements of skiing, it might be easier to start off with sunshine and good weather. And while Aspen Snowmass receives its fair share of sunshine year round, even in the middle of Winter, Spring offers near-guaranteed sunshine.
While Aspen and Snowmass are open as late as April 21st, and Highlands until the 28th, Buttermilk will stop spinning the lifts on April 7th. The different closing days are worth considering yet luckily Snowmass has more than enough easy terrain to satisfy any skier or snowboarder just starting out.
Of course, skiing in the Spring requires totally different preparation than mid-Winter. It’s much easier, but forgetting some of these could result in a rough day. When you’re Spring skiing at Snowmass this year, don’t forget sunscreen, water, and breathable gear/layers. The temperatures fluctuate tremendously during April, meaning you’ll want to dress warm for the early morning turns, then shed those layers as the temps can get to the 50s and higher. With the constant sunshine, sunscreen is important to avoid serious burns. And with the heat, don’t forget to drink plenty of water.
To encourage more people to enjoy the beauty of Spring in Snowmass, we’ve dropped our minimum stay down to just 3 nights. If you do plan to visit Snowmass this Spring, use the booking code SPRING to receive 10% off your stay. (Daily housekeeping is not included in this offer)
